Street Photography - LANSANG

Street photography in New York City was a challenge for me, even if I enjoy taking photos of people.  The biggest difference between my portrait photography and street photography is that I can control all the aspects of a portrait while in a studio, but while on the street, I'm not in control of the subjects.

I decided to post two photos:  one of a traffic officer writing a ticket, and one of a couple walking along High Line park.

The traffic officer was so busy with his work that he didn't notice me.  I placed him on the left 1/3 of the frame so that he's facing into the "tight" part of the photo -- this gives a sense that he could be writing the parking ticket for any car, not just any specific car.  I filled the frame with his image.

The couple walking in the second photo are framed by two tall people passing by.  The effect makes the couple look very short, when in fact they were normal height.  The juxtaposition was striking to me at the time.  I tried to get all the people to be in the frame at the exact moment when they passed each other so that the final image showed the contrast between their heights.
