I staged this picture by placing the hat on top of the railing. I did this in order to create a shot that included leading lines. I chose not to fill the frame more because I wanted the vertical lines to also be in my photo. I attempted to simplify the background by approaching from the left side in order to remove the field from the background. I also blurred the background by focusing on the hat.
This photo fits into the genre of leading lines and still life. To accomplish the different exposure values, my camera allowed more light in as the exposure value increased. It did this by opening the aperture and lowering the shutter speed.
